The Lake Washington East Chapter feels it is very important to be involved with our community and to help the people around us. Our Chapter members have been very helpful over the years in donating funds, items, and time to our community service projects.
This year, we have a few community service projects, and we're sure our members are up for the challenge. A Community Service package handout was given outlining the program.
THE SOPHIA WAY
To benefit the women at The Sophia Way, homeless shelter for women in Bellevue, WA. We will be collecting on a monthly basis, small toiletries and cosmetics to donate for the women at the shelter located at Bellevue First Congregational Church in downtown Bellevue. Ask your coworkers to help with this project. A basket will be available on the back table at each meeting for donations. Many women use the shelter for daytime use only. There are six to eight women who are able to spend some nights at the shelter. Small (hotel sample size) toiletries and trial size cosmetics (i.e. "gift with purchase" size) are very much appreciated.
YWCA FAMILY VILLAGE
LWE has been in partnership with the YWCA Family Village for many years. It has been enjoyable and fullfilling and we appreciate the opportunity to assist those in need. It is more important now than ever before to help those in transition, especially in view of these difficult economic times. Once again, we will be accepting donations of gently used professional clothing to donate to women in need. Bring your contribution to our monthly Chapter meeting.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
We will also be particiating in the Box Tops for Education program this year. All members are encouraged to bring in box tops from the approved list to our montly Chapter meetings, so ask your friends, co-workers, family, church friends and gym friends to participate. Campbell's Soup labels and Avery office product labels will also be collected. At the end of the year, they will be given to a local school, Stevenson Elementary, in Bellevue, WA to contribute towards their educational needs. Stevenson's goal is to "create an environment that will support all students in becoming successful and well prepared for the rigors of middle school" and we want to help them attain that goal! There will be a donation box at each Chapter meeting. Be sure to save them in a Ziploc bag with your name on it as we will be awarding prizes to LWE members with the highest participation.
We thank you for your continued support and look forward to a successful year! If you have questions regarding any of our service projects, please contact our Diana Wilson.
